Segmentation rules are a form of automation that only run once. Segmentation rules are an easy way to perform a bulk action in your prospect database and further segment your prospects based on your criteria. They will only affect prospects that exist in your database at that specific point in time.
Here are a few actions you can do with segmentation rules:
Add or remove prospects to an existing list
Add or remove prospects to a new list
Add prospects to a Salesforce campaign
A typical use for segmentation rules is with static lists. You can use segmentation rules to add prospects to a certain list or remove them. For instance, you can add all prospects with job title “CEO” (at that moment) to a static list.
How to set up segmentation rules
Much like automation rules, there are two steps in setting up a segmentation rule: setting the rule and setting the action.
Rule
Setting the rule is creating the criteria a prospect must meet for the action to apply. It can be applied to any of the prospect default or custom field information.
For example:
Job title
Country
Revenue
Action (Completion)
The action is what will happen to the prospect once the criteria is met. There are only 6 actions that can be completed on a segmentation rule.
Actions:
Add prospects to an existing list
Add prospects to a new list
Add prospects to a Salesforce campaign
Apply tags to prospects
Remove prospects from a list
Remove tags
